Everything about Adjustment Disorder explained

Adjustment disorder can be described as a serious outburst of anger and frustration. A person suffering from adjustment disorder loses his/her temper because of an unexpected or unfavorable life situation.

It may be a financial problem, marital or relationship problem, loss of loved one etc.

Any situation which a person is not used to can force him/her to show the symptoms of adjustment disorder.

In this article, we will explore the causes and treatments of adjustment disorder.

If you are suffering from adjustment disorder or you know someone who is suffering from it, this article is useful for you.

Let’s begin exploring the causes and treatments of adjustment disorders.

Let’s first begin with extreme examples then we will slowly move towards mild examples.

Causes and treatments of adjustment disorder:

#Loss of loved one:

If you have ever visited Indian temples like the temples of Varanasi, Kedarnath etc then you might have seen yogis walking naked smearing the ashes of dead in their entire body.

What is the significance of smearing ashes of the dead? They smear ashes on their body to constantly remind themselves that they are mortal. Why?

If we will remind ourselves perpetually that we are not going to live forever then automatically we will start investing our time and energies only on things which are important to us.

Blessing in disguise

If you are suffering from adjustment disorder because of the loss of loved one then I want you to turn your pain into a great possibility.

I’m not trying to belittle your loss in any way. At some point in our life, we all have lost people who are dear to us.

But the truth is everyone who has taken birth shall die. There is no point in denying or running away from the truth.

If you really love that person then you must promise that person and yourself that you will make the best of your life by only investing your time and energy on things which mean something to you.

#Trauma

A person can show symptoms of adjustment disorder because of their encounter with highly distressful experience like loss of money, marital problems, divorce, break up or anything else.

I have written a book How to get over a breakup and divorce effortlessly with an intention of helping people who are suffering from the excruciating pain of divorce or break up. It can also help a person who is suffering from unrequited love.

No silly bits of advice like delete your messages or chat, burn your photos, develop iron strong will etc are given in this book.

This book contains 100% practical advice which will give you guaranteed results.

It is all about context

Look our past can either become a curse or a boon for us. It all depends on the way we look at it.

Let me tell you something about Maharshi Patanjali who was a very great stage of India.

He wrote yoga sutras. The length and dimensions of his work are so vast that some people argue that it is not a single person’s work.

His Yoga sutras begin with an incomplete line which is translated into the English language as- and now yoga.

On the first glance, it looks like an incomplete sentence but it has a very deep and profound meaning.

A lot of people think that when they will earn enough money then after that everything will be fine. Some people think that if a particular person will become their life partner then they will live a very happy life with no problem and tension. There are other types of people who think that a lot of power or control over others will give them a sense of contentment.

Like this people assume that a particular thing will end all their sufferings and they will live happily ever after. But the truth is if money and fame can’t guarantee contentment.

If they have the capability of giving contentment then no rock star or pop artist might have committed suicide. Like this power, reputation, status or anything else can’t give human beings fulfillment.

When a person realizes this that – No physical pleasure or material well-welling can settle him/her, then he or she is ready for yoga.

If you will realize or acknowledge this fact then your life will automatically come on track. In addition to that, you will also be able to start your journey to ultimate contentment or fulfillment.

#Life’s situation

If you will go to any psychologist for treatment then the first thing they will do is- they will try to know your past. They want to know how was your childhood, your relationship with your parents and siblings, about your love life and professional life.

They want to know all this because whenever a person fails to express his emotions then an inner wound is created within that person.

Once the reason for the formation of the wound is identified then it is very easy to heal that wound.

After identifying the reason for its formation then the work of the psychotherapist to it just bring that suppressed emotion out.

Now the therapist just has to find a way through which a patient can express his/her emotion.

How to find ways to express our emotions?

There are a lot of people who suppress their emotions. Whenever people feel like crying they don’t cry. There are people who try to trample their anger, frustration etc.

Expressing our anger doesn’t mean that we must shout at someone or indulge in violence. There are subtle ways of expressing our emotions.

Before telling you about the different way of expressing ourselves let me tell you few facts about crying.

A lot of people think that crying is a sign of weakness (especially males) but it is not true. In Indian culture crying is not seen just as an expression of grief. It is also seen as an expression of love, compassion, joy etc.

Unfortunately, a lot of people only cry when they experience grief. A person can also shed tears of happiness and joy.  You might have seen people crying when they achieve something worthwhile in their life.

Whenever we experience something which is overwhelming then tears pop out of our eyes. A lot of people only experience overwhelming grief so they shed tears of pain. But if we will experience overwhelming love, compassion or bliss then also tears will pop out of our eyes.

So never try to suppress your tears. If you don’t want to cry in public then you can cry in private.

Others ways to express our emotions:

Other ways of expressing ourselves are – playing sports, exposing ourselves to Mother Nature, writing a diary, poems etc.

For me, poetry has been an integral part of my life. The beauty of poetry is that it can touch dimensions of life which are beyond logic whilst keeping our feet rooted in logic.

A few days ago I was in Thailand. We visited Baiyoke Sky Hotel which is one of the most expensive hotels in Bangkok. After our visit, we were waiting for our car outside the hotel.

There I saw one newly married couple and his friends. The husband was telling his wife that- “baby I booked a Suite for you”. And after that, he showed the photo of the room on his brand new iPhone X.

After some time the husband went away somewhere and I looked at his wife. She was a young and beautiful lady. She looked at me and smiled. After few seconds she looked away whilst showing certain signs of inner turmoil or grief.

After coming back to my hotel I wrote this poem.

Monroe’s Children

A woman by the name Marilyn Monroe lived a very stupid life and ultimately she took her own life.

She ended her life but left her progeny to live in the same way she lived.

Becoming flamboyant must never be the goal.

The focus must always be on developing and working on our capabilities.

When our competence crosses certain threshold then flamboyancy is a result of it, not the other way round.

This must not be looked as a privilege.

It must always be looked as a responsibility because a lot of people shall begin to look up at you.

Shaping entire life around the pleasures of the flesh and indulging in activities to attract attention is a sure way to crash.

Do you know that you will die?

If yes then you mustn’t waste even an iota of your time and energy on trivial things.

My book Poetic flings is a collection of my 14 best poems. You will learn a lot about love, relationship, and life through this book. It is full of wisdom and valuable insights.

#Hatred or bitterness for a person

A lot of people fail to adjust with some of their family members or any other person. This inability to adjust with other person makes him/her a victim of adjustment disorder. Now the question is what is the solution to this problem?

The truth is if you are willing then there is always a solution. On the other hand, if a person is not willing then he/she will give excuses.

It’s all about where your focus is

If you will keep on focusing on things or people who are blocking your path then you will never succeed in your endeavor. Tony Robbins once said that it is not about lack of resources, it’s about resourcefulness.

It doesn’t matter who you are and what you are doing, there will always be a resistance. The greater your aim or endeavor is the greater resistance or opposition you will face.

The best way of handling this is –always keep an eye on the bigger picture. Always keep your focus on what you want to achieve and where you want to go.

If you will just do this then you will automatically figure out how to turn everything in your favor.
